The name Darjeeling is a composition of “Dorje”meaning (Thunderbolt) and “Ling”meaning (Place).THE LAND OF THUNDERBOLT.The British declared war with Nepal in 1813, and in 1816 by the Treaty of SEAGOULIE,Nepal  ceded 4000 sq.miles and by the treaty of TITALIYA in 1817 the king of Sikkim was reinstated.


BRIEF HISTORY OF DARJEELING:

  • Altitude :  2042 Mt.

  • Mesmerized with the beauty of Darjeeling and the favorable climatic condition the East India Company negotiated Darjeeling with the Raja of Sikkim for an annual sum of Rs 3000/- in 1835 by C.A Lloyd and J.W Grant and thus the journey of Darjeeling with the British started with foundation of Loreto School in 1847,St Pauls School 1864,Planters Club in 1868,Botanical Garden 1878,St Josephs School 1888,Railway Station in 1891 and Present Municipality Building in 1921.
  • With a negligible population of barely 100 in 1835 Tea Plantation started in the Hill Station of Darjeeling.
  • Darjeeling presently famous for World’s finest Tea and also some of the best Medicinal plants are found in Darjeeling.

Day 01: : Arrival 
NJP/BAGDOGRA – DARJEELING.
 
With your Arrival in NJP/Airport , Our 76 Miles Travels & Tour representative will traditionally welcome you with a Nepali Scarf commonly known as (KHADA ).You will then be directed to your vehicle and thus your journey starts for Darjeeling, NH 55. With a distance of 85 km and a time span of 3.5 hours Your Driver will explain you the the various locations and points as you will come across on your way to Darjeeling.

Sukuna : 30 minutes from NJP/Airport ( Wild life scantuary,Elephants can be spotted)
Rohini: Snake bend road,great siliguri view,brief stoppage for snacks.
Kurseong: ( 4921 ft ) sub divisional town,British architectures ,good Schools,Tourist Lodge.
Ghoom(7407 ft) Highest railway station in india.

On reaching Darjeeling ,your driver will drop you to your location,Overnight stay at your booked hotel.

Day 02:
DARJEELING LOCAL SIGHT SEEING.
 
Your Day starts around 4.00 am. Your hotel staff will wake you up and your vehicle will be at the hotel gate ready to take you for TIGER HILL. ( Carry warm clothes as during winter the temperature in tiger hill drops upto (-4 Degree Celcius).
 
TIGER HILL (8482 FT) : The highest point for Sunrise and Mt Kanchendzonga ( 28169 ft) .view.
GHOOM MONASTERY : Constructed in 1961 by Dhardo Rinpoche head of Yiga Choling Monastery.
BATASIA LOOP: Spiral tunnel to counteract the rising gradient for himalayn railway.(WAR MEMORIAL)

Day 03 :
DARJEELING – MIRIK – DARJEELING.


Post breakfast start for an excursion to Mirik Lake which is 62 kms from Darjeeling.  Mirik lake is one the destination where the town is centered by man-made Sumendu Lake, Cardamom plantations and Tea Estates.. The walk on the 3.5 Kms long promenade around the lake is fascination one. The 80ft long arch type over bridge across the lake is a beautiful place to explore  the lake.  Boating Facilities is available for tourist on direct payment basis.
The drive of 3-4 hrs from Darjeeling to Mirik lake is one of the most fascinating rides as it passes through the Lusty pine trees forest through its half of journey and remaining journey will be landscape by Tea Garden Estate. On way back guest can do shopping at Pushapati Market(Indo Nepal Border)

Day 04:
DARJEELING – KALIMPONG.
 
Post Breakfast transfer to Kalimpong (49 km). 3.5 Hours journey.
After Breakfast take a Joy Ride from Darjeeling to Ghoom in the UNESCO protected world heritage Steam Engine Toy Train Ride and from Ghoom continue your journey for Kalimpong .

Day 05: KALIMPONG TO PELLING SIGHTSEEING 
Breakfast at Hotel . Drive to Pelling and on reaching Pelling drive to Khangchendzonga waterfalls (23 kms/1 ½ hrs) Enroute see Rimbi waterfalls. Drive to Khechupalri Lake (16 kms/40 minutes from KWF) - Sacred and wish full filling lake amidst a deep and rich forest. Drive back to Pelling (28 kms/1 ½ hrs) Lunch at Hotel in Pelling. After Lunch, visit Pemayangtse monastery (Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism/310 yrs old) Visit Rabdentse palace ruins (02nd capital of Sikkim)- 30 minutes easy walk from the main road through the forest/ CC footpath,Sky walk 10 minutes drive from the town. Darap Village - A small village about 7 km on the way to Yuksam. It is mostly occupied by the Limboo tribe including small population of other communities as well Singshore Bridge - Singshore Bridge is located around 26 km away from Pelling. The bridge has a height of over 100 m and 240 m in length, is the highest bridge in Sikkim and the second highest bridge in Asia. Drive back to Pelling (20 minutes) Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 06: PELLING TO GANGTOK VIA RAVONGLA & NAMCHI  (5500 FTS / 125 KMS / 5-6 HRS)
Breakfast at Hotel & check out. Drive to Ravangla (50 kms/2 hrs) Visit Tathagata Tshal(Buddha Park), Lunch at Ravangla. After Lunch Visit Chardham in Namchi and then Drive to Gangtok (64 kms/3 hrs),upon arrival check in to the hotel. Free & Leisure time. Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 07 : 
Excursion to Changu Lake & Baba Mandir

After breakfast start for an excursion to Changu Lake (12,400 ft.) & Baba Mandir (13,200 ft.) which is 55 kms from Gangtok city.  This T- Somgo lake is situated at  an altitude of 12,000 ft on the Gangtok NathuLa highway. The lake is oval in shape, 15 meters deep and is considered sacred by the local people. It is also a home of brahminy ducks. It’s cool, placid water harmonizes with the scenic beauty around. This placid lake remains frozen during the winter months up to mid-May.

Nathu La Pass to Republic of China is nearly 20 kilometers further  and is an optional tour. Prior permission is required to visit Nathula Pass.  Extra cost applies for extended tour to Nathula. Evening free to roam around M G Road (Mall)/local Shopping at Gangtok.

Day 08: GANGTOK SIGHTSEEING  
Breakfast at Hotel. Drive to Banjhakri  eco-park (30 minutes from town) Visit Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (museum with collections or antique and rare Buddhism related items) Do Drul Chorten. Ropeway at Hur-huray dara. Back to Hotel for Lunch. After Lunch, visit Enchay Monestry/Flower show/Hanuman Tok/Ganesh tok/Tashi View Point (to see Mt.Khangchendzonga and other peaks)/Bakthang waterfalls. Vehicle will drop you at the Market / Hotel. Free & Leisure time to stroll in the market.

Day 9: Return

Return drive from Gangtok to NJP or Bagdogra airport. NJP Rly Station / IXB Airport (120 kms / 4-5 hrs drive).
